Strawberry Shortcake Costume

This is the costume that I made for Halloween 2010. I sewed most of it myself. For the dress, I found a dress at a thrift store, and then I altered it by adding sleeves and godets to give it fullness. I got the extra fabric in the form of a giant table cloth form the same thrift store. I added on to the apron that I used last year for my red riding hood costume. I made the hat and the strawberry on top of it from scratch. The strawberry was made out of felt with white puffy paint for the seeds. I found the striped tights at another thrift store, new.

Strawberry Shortcake was the main character of a children's cartoon during the 80's in the US. A lot of people still have merchandise with her on it. I thought it would be fun to dress up as her. The hat doesn't look as outrageous on me as I thought it would.
